Function / Content

This series consists of mineral production return files kept for each leaseholding in every goldfield district of the Northern Territory. The nine goldfields in the Northern Territory were identified by district as; A (Agicondi), B (Waggaman), C (McArthur River), D (Maranboy), E (Warramunga), F (Kurundi), G (Granites), H (Arunta), and K (Daly River). The production returns were reports of the tonnage and value of the ore mined, and the number of people employed at the mine. This information was gathered for statistical reporting under section 169 of the Mining Ordinance 1939. Originally, the files were kept in alphabetical order according to the lease name. NTRS 2417/P1 includes a file relating to Albert Namatjira (file title: Production Return, PA287H, box: 10). NTRS 2417/P2 contains a file relating to the Mt Wells Battery Reserve (file title: [Mineral Production Return] Mt Wells Battery Reserve, Waggaman, box: 1).
